PAULA HARR
OWNER PATCHWORK BY PAULA My first exposure to the art of quilting happened when I was a small child playing underneath my grandmother’s quilt frame while she quilted. This is also the origin of my love of traditional quilt making.
I have been quilting since the 1980’s. In my hometown of Fairmont, W.Va. there were no quilt shops so I opened Uncle Bertie’s Quilt Shop named after my grandmother where I stocked quilting supplies and offered classes to beginners as well as classes on applique and various other techniques. In 1996 I moved to Virginia Beach, Va. and put all of my quilting supplies in the attic for ten years while I concentrated on my nursing career. In 2007 my son asked me to make a Double Wedding Ring quilt for him and his fiancée. It was now time to bring the supplies and my love of quilting out of the attic. In June, 2014, I retired from my 47 year nursing career and am able to devote my time to Patchwork by Paula which specializes in T-Shirt and Memory Quilts. I was commissioned by the Neptune Festival to make a raffle quilt for the 2014 Neptune Festival. I am a member of the Tidewater Quilt Guild and the Virginia Consortium of Quilters. You can see examples of my work on my Facebook page Patchwork By Paula and the Gallery tab. I am pleased to now add custom quilting to the services I provide. I have also developed a Guild Program which includes a powerpoint demonstration of quilt examples and design techniques. |
